Touch Works

Touchworks are paintings on glass developed as physical and emotional check-ins. They have become part of a painting ritual, which restricts the paintbrush and only allows for skin contact on the surface. This ritual is performed once a week on a Monday.

These works remind me to be present both as a painter and as a person because they are immediate. That is, there is little indulgence with regards to my current emotional state and even less in terms of the image. I love how these artworks are reactive.

“They help me to orientate where my body and mind are and how I am feeling in a particular moment”

I am an artist intrigued by “dynamism”. This is the quality of the movement or the mark-making. All of my work pushes this dynamic boundary. Sometimes it’s through quick sketches on paper and other times large oil paintings that take concentration and lengthy time frames. The work is always produced in relation to my body in space/time and as such is a constantly shifting dynamic between mind, hand, body,  eyes and various material supports. Sketches inform paintings which inform rituals that influence imagery and so the cycle ebbs and flows. It is all part of a continuous dialogue within my practice.
